When we arrived at our destination, I was quite nervous as I didn’t know what to expect and I sometimes find new experiences unsettling. Soon after, I got to meet all the participants of the work camp. We were 11 participants in total and I was happy to realise that the team consisted of eager, friendly people.
The Project:
We would start our days at 06:30 a.m. with lively music, we had breakfast altogether and then proceeded with the tasks of the day from 08:00-14:00. I really enjoyed every single day. Firstly, the camp was located in a rich green forest which meant the surroundings were simply breath-taking. Secondly, we carried out great work, we created landmarks, built walls and we even learnt how to make cement. Undertaking these tasks together, made all participants feel closer to each other so that many locals wondered whether we had all known each other prior to this trip. Once the hard work was done for the day, we would spend the rest of our time organising exciting activities such as hiking trips, cycling, excursions or going for dinner together.
The Outcome:
Spending so much time together, collaborating for tasks and then having fun offered us the opportunity to share thoughts and feelings, to learn from each other and to have interesting and fruitful conversations. It was truly an unforgettable experience which changed my life for the better!
