Youth for Action and Sustainability – YAS!, was a voluntary project based on the aim of promoting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations General Assembly in the framework of the Agenda 2030, as a blueprint to achieve sustainable development for all. The project included a group of seven volunteers from 5-6 countries for 12 months and together they addressed the global challenges the society face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, peace and justice. The project’s objectives were to educate and inform young people and the local community about SDGs and to promote education for sustainable development, to encourage young people to become active citizens and find ways to engage democratically in the policy-making of sustainable development.
The volunteers organised several workshops in which they tackled the challenges of the SDGs during the year as well as a Conference on the SDGs in Cyprus. They also published a booklet with best practices that provides information about the context of each goal and suggests actions to enhance solidarity between people, build a community of shared responsibilities, raise awareness of several societal challenges and empower young people to act upon rights.
